College Students Major in a Love for Horses at International Horse Shows in Wellington
There’s something about the partnership between horse and rider that nothing else can quite compare to. For college students Cassie Schmidt and Lexi Maounis, that partnership was so important that even hundreds of miles and full-time college course schedules couldn’t keep them from continuing to compete on their equine partners in major horse shows in Wellington, Florida, known as “the Winter Equestrian Capital of the World.”

Omega Alpha Pharmaceuticals, Inc., shares their same love for horses, and is dedicated to creating effective, all-natural equine health supplements based on scientific research. When Omega Alpha saw the care that Schmidt and Maounis put into their horses, the company rewarded both of their horses with the Omega Alpha Healthy Horse Award.

Cassie Schmidt and Monet (known as “Mo”) caught the attention of Omega Alpha at the Adequan Global Dressage Festival in Wellington. The Westfalen gelding’s gleaming appearance and fun-loving personality are signs of his overall wellness both mentally and physically, earning him the Omega Alpha Healthy Horse Award.

“He’s so mischievous, and every day when I walk in the barn he nickers at me – it’s so loving,” says Schmidt. “I love riding. It’s what gets me up in the morning.”

Schmidt is currently attending Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas, where she’s studying biology pre-med. But there will always be time for her first love – horses. Schmidt says she is taking a semester off from her studies to travel to Florida to enjoy her last year in the young rider division at the Adequan Global Dressage Festival. Schmidt trains with internationally successful dressage rider Shelly Francis.

“My current goals with Mo are just to get him really seasoned in the ring. He has very good basics, so I just want to get him steadier in the ring and more focused on me and us,” said Schmidt. Receiving the Omega Alpha Healthy Horse Award was her first introduction to Omega Alpha products, and she now has a prize of several health supplements from the company to try out with Mo.

Just down the street from the Adequan Global Dressage Festival is the internationally renowned Winter Equestrian Festival, where Lexi Maounis is also juggling horse shows with college. Maounis attends the University of Miami during the week and competes four horses in the hunter rings on the weekends.

Omega Alpha noticed the excellent health and disposition of Maounis’ horse Fetching (called “Luke”) in the Amateur Owners 3’3”, and presented Luke with the Omega Alpha Healthy Horse Award.

Maounis traveled from her home state of Connecticut to attend college in Miami so that she could be close to the annual 12-week Winter Equestrian Festival circuit. “I’ve been riding since I was seven years old, so it just wasn’t something that I was ready to give up when I went to college,” says Maounis. “It’s a little bit hard to balance academics with riding, but I try to do it as best as I can. I major in advertising with a minor in marketing and PR. Miami has been a really good choice for me.”

Maounis was proud to accept the Omega Alpha Healthy Horse Award for Luke’s muscular appearance. “Luke’s come a really long way,” says Maounis, “At first it took a little bit for me to figure him out, but he’s come a really long way and it’s shown what practice can do!” She had heard of Omega Alpha supplements before receiving the award, and was grateful to receive some of her own.

Omega Alpha was happy to recognize these hardworking young riders for their dedication to their horses’ good health and happiness. Omega Alpha has over two decades of experience in creating tailored health plans for any horse, with effective all-natural supplements that aid in everything from joint health to calming to respiratory health and more.

As winners of the Omega Alpha Healthy Horse Award, Mo and Luke each won a bag full of Omega Alpha supplements, an embroidered fly scrim, and other goodies.
