Last year the Great Yorkshire Show (GYS) asked different riders to dismount when found too heavy to ride their horse. In total 12 people were asked to dimount in the 2017 show earlier this month. A total of four chose to be weighed, all were found to be more than 25% of their ponies weight.
The maximum weight set by the show is 20% of the pony weight.
The Great Yorkshire introduced this rule last year for protection of the horse welfare. Now the organisers say to be frustrated they are in the same position as last year and no improvement of the situation has been made.
