A conversation in Hong Kong with Daniel Deusser

A conversation in Hong Kong with Daniel Deusser
Daniel Deusser came to Hong Kong with one clear goal: adding the Grand Prix of Hong Kong to his list of victories. If he managed to do so, only winning the Longines Grand Prix of New York stood in the way of winning the Super Grand Slam. A victory in the Grand Prix of New York would mean a bonis of 2,5 million. But in the end, it was too good to be true: Patrice Delaveau speeded to the finish line in a super fast time, taking home the victory of the Grand Prix of Honkg Kong. This means Deusser has to store up his Grand Slam dream for at least another year.

Was wining the Super Grand Slam a goal for your?

I wouldn’t say it really was a goal. But if you win the Grand Prix of Paris, of course you start dreaming. I was very close also, I think I tried everything to win today but in the end Patrice was just faster.

Are you however satisfied with your show here?

Definitely. I’m also very happy with the way Cornet jumped today. He tried really hard and we were very close.

After your round, did you think you had done enough to win?

Like I already said I was very happy with my round. I added a stride into the combination because I thought this was the safest option for me and my horse. I also knew that other rides would maybe not take this decision but I didn’t want to take the risk. In this sport you never know if you have done enough and that’s also the prettiest of this sport. Patrice rode a super round and I think he deserved to win today.

You can no longer win the Super Grand Slam. Does this mean you wil not be competing in New York?

No not at all. New York is a beautiful location to organise a show and it’s definitely still on my list. I hope to do well on American ground and maybe I can still win the Grand Prix.

What do you think about the show here in Hong Kong?

I had really much fun competing here. The audience in Hong Kong is amazing as well. They are really into it and it’s nice for us riders to compete in front of a crowd like this. An audience like that really motivates you and the horse. A horse that enters an empty arena will jump different than a horse competing before a great audience. To cut it short: I think this is an amazing show and I was the organization a lot of succes in the future!
