National Youth Championships get underway at Brand Hall
oday hosts the first day of competition for the Charles Owen Pony and Racesafe Junior National Championships which takes place at Brand Hall in the Shropshire countryside (2nd – 4th June).

Combinations in these youth championships will be hoping to make a mark and catch the eye of the British team selectors ahead of their respective 2017 FEI European Championships. This year the European Championships for Ponies heads to Kaposvár, Hungary, (26th – 30th July) with the Junior riders taking a hop across the Irish sea to Millstreet in Co. Cork (19th – 23rd July).

Sponsored by long-time supporters, Charles Owen, the National Pony Championship will welcome the top British combinations aged between 12 and 16 years of age on ponies between 142cm and 148cm (14hh – 14.2hh) high. Entries taking on the BE Novice level competition include three of the combinations from the 2016 European silver medal winning team; Saffron Cresswell and Cuffesgrange Little Ric, Anya Kolleth with Drop the Subject and Molly Faulkner on Mr John Thornton’s Sycamore Lad (pictured competing in 2016).

Junior riders aged between 14 and 18 are this weekend competing for the title of the Racesafe Junior National Champion in the international CCIJ1* class. Last year’s runner up, Richard Coney and Kananaskis, make a return to the key BE fixture along with his 2016 Junior European Championship team mate Bubby Upton, who brings Rachael Upton’s Eros DHI and Cannavaro.

Results throughout the weekend can be found HERE when they are available.

Against the backdrop of the beautiful Georgian House, Brand Hall offers a crammed schedule of eventing with CIC1*, Novice and BE90 sections and more details on Brand Hall Horse Trails can be found on their website.
