Alexa Stais changes stables and nationality

After six and a half years, South African rider Alexa Stais is striking out in new directions without her long-time coach and mentor Hilmar Meyer. She will continue under a different nationality and ride for Michaels-Beerbaum's stable from now on. The 25-year-old Alexa Stais is from South Africa and came to Germany at the age of 18 and found a second home in Hilmar Meyer's stable.

Alexa announced on her social media that she is leaving Hilmar Meyer's stables after six and a half years. She will remain in Germany, but will not have to move far. Her next stop is the Michaels-Beerbaum stable, which is only ten minutes away. She had previously ridden horses for Markus Beerbaum and Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum. Now she is going to work there full time as a rider.

"Of course this was not an easy decision. Hilmar has done everything for me. I'm super grateful for that! But I've been with him since I came to Germany six years ago and I want to develop further and also see something else. Now is the time for that. Hilmar can understand my decision," said Alexa.

Alexa Stais is from South Africa, but her grandfather is Cypriot. For Stais, it was a sports related decision to change nationality: "I am South African at heart. But riding for Cyprus makes a lot of things much easier from a sporting point of view because it is an EU country. That opens up a lot more opportunities."
