British Eventing awards 2016 Volunteers at the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials
The 2016 British Eventing Volunteer of the Year awards were this weekend presented by BE President Jane Holderness-Roddam CBE LVO at the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials.

Fence Judges of the Year 2016, Victoria (Tori) and Peter Asprey, Volunteer of the Year 2016, Elin Stenberg (pictured above) and Young Volunteer of the Year 2016, Jade and James Jennings, were invited to the event, together with family and friends, for the presentation of their awards.

Prior to the presentation Tori and Peter also had the honour of fence judging on the World famous course at the Mirage Pond (Fence 17) and everybody enjoyed a three course lunch and hospitality with David Holmes, BE CEO, in the Horse Trials Support Group Marquee. All the volunteers watched the final rounds of show jumping from the Royal Box before the presentations which took place in the main ring in front of Badminton’s full stands.

Elin commented; “I’ve had a lovely afternoon and to receive the Volunteer of the Year Award here at Badminton is just fantastic. I love helping at events but to be recognised like this is a quite special.”

Young Volunteer of the Year James (pictured below with Jade) said; “It’s great being here and look forward to my presentation in the main ring. I love helping out at horse trials and once I’ve got my licence, I look forward to doing my jobs on a quad bike as it will be just that much quicker than cycling around site.”

“I really like helping with the scores, whether in the scorer’s tent or in control for provisional scores. It’s nice meeting and working with different people at the various events that we go too,” added sister Jade.

at Jennings, their grandmother and dedicated event volunteer, said she was thrilled for James and Jade to be recognised in this way as they thoroughly deserve it: “They both really work hard at quite a few events and to receive the Young Volunteer of the Year award together is justly deserved.”

Tori and Peter (pictured below), who have hundreds of days fence judging with BE between them said: "We loved being here at Badminton, and of course fence judging on Saturday was absolutely amazing. We were the judges for Fence 17ab - The Mirage Pond - and there was plenty happening to keep us busy. The sea of people round our fence and all the way along the Vicarage fields is a sight we shall never forget. We will wear our Fence Judges of the Year badges with pride. We’d like to thank the Director Hugh Thomas for giving us the opportunity to being a part of the World’s Premier 3 Day Event."
