While training a horse, dressage rider Christine Wels has died of her injuries after being kicked by a horse. In her younger years, the World Cup- rider - now aged 67 years old - rode just up to the international Grand Prix level. In the 90's she competed at several world cup competitions, resulting in two World cup Finals.
Later Wels got some negative attention as her particular training methods were revealed to the outside world. In 2008 she got convicted to one year and 9 months and a working punishment, on accusation of horse abuse.
