New York Court Upholds Brigid Colvin's USEF Suspension

The case of USA's Brigid Colvin continues. A New York court has upheld the USEF (U.S. Equestrian Federation)'s suspension of Brigid Colvin. Colvin was in violation of Chapter 4, GR410-411 of the USEF rules. The USEF Hearing Committee had issued a seven-month suspension, effective Sept. 1. Following the issuance of the USEF ruling, Colvinfiled a lawsuit against the USEF in the state of New York challenging the Hearing Committee's decision. The New York court upheld the Hearing Committee's decision on Sept. 25. Following an appeal by Colvin, the appellate courtgranted a stay of enforcement of the lower court's order pending a decision on the request for a stay pending appeal. On Nov. 17, that appellate court denied Colvin's request, has vacated the interim relief, and Colvin's seven-month suspension commences immediately on Nov. 17. The USEF and members of the USEF Hearing Committee go to great lengths to ensure that the rigorous and fair process set forth by the Federation is followed. For a full description of the Hearing Committee process please read Part VII of the USEF Bylaws.
