The big, sweeping grass arena spans 125m x 75m and is in sharp contrast the more compact sand arena next to the Atlantic Ocean shoreline in Miami Beach a week ago. The different competition arenas test the horses and ensure only the best all rounders can win the overall championship.
Only four combinations produced two clear basic rounds, qualifing for the final jump-off. Former European Champion, Roger Yves Bost and the 12-year-old Qoud'Coeur de la Loge (by Ideal de la Loge) set the fastest time in this jump-off. The pair crossed the finish in 37.23 seconds.
Bertram Allen came close to Bost's time aboard Hector van d'Abdijhoeve (by Cabrio van de Heffinck). Unfortunate for the combination one rail went down, concluding with a third place. Belgium's Jos Verlooy played safe. Together with Caracas (by Casall) the Belgian show jumper finished clear ending as runner-up.
The top five was completed by Christian Ahlmann (Epleaser van't Heike) and Steve Guerdat (Bianca) in fourth and fifth place. Last weeks winning pair, Edwina Tops Alexander and Lintea Tequila didn't like the grassy ring. The pair finished 25th.
With his victory 'Bosty' returned home with 132,000 Euro.
