Billy Twomey's Ardcolum Duke is no longer

The Irish Horse Board has announced the death of Ardcolum Duke (ISH, Gypsy Duke x Clover Hill) at the age of twenty. This loyal horse of Billy Twomey, who had not competed since 2019, had an impressive career.

According to the association, the gelding amassed over €230,000 in earnings during his career. Ardcolum Duke was always owned by his breeder, Joe Flynn. Originally, Ardcolum Duke came to Billy Twomey's home for a four-week trial period, but then traveled the world with him. He was primarily a horse for speed events up to, but not limited to, 1.50m. From 2014 to 2018, he achieved no fewer than twenty-four victories on the international circuit.

The grey notably won the 1.60m Grand Prix at the Irish CSI 3* in Millstreet in 2015 and made a name for himself on numerous occasions at the CSIO 5* in Dublin. There, he twice won the Speed Derby and also a points accumulation event with a joker at 1.60m. "I was very proud of him," recalls his breeder and owner.

Ardcolum Duke will be remembered as a remarkable horse that brought much pride and success not only to his rider but also to his breeder.
