In 37th place out of a total of 42 combinations, it was Koen Vereecke's turn to put his luck to the test in this 1.60m main class. Only four other riders had already completed a clear round, as the course sent many a rider and horse into the wrong. Vereecke counted on Lector van den Bisschop (by Bamako de Muze) to make it a jump-off with five. The twelve-year-old BWP stallion did what was expected of him and finished clear with the fastest time!

Thirteen riders were allowed to return for the second round. Emanuele Gaudiano (ITA) was the first to go on Crack Balou (by Balou du Reventon). The pair tapped another bar in the sand and the following combinations also went wrong. Argentina's Mariano Ossa and Elton van het Exelhof Z (by Elvis ter Putte) made the best of it in the half of this round and had only a total of three time faults. Gerrit Nieberg (GER) was the first of the five first clear jumpers to start with Blues d'Aveline CH (by Baloussini). They immediately set the bar high with a clear round in a time of 50.03s.

Vereecke was the very last to compete in this jump-off. With only Nieberg (GER) having a zero score on the board, staying clear was enough to secure a place on the podium. But the Belgian rider was not satisfied with that and pushed Lector van den Bisschop to stay clear as well as crossing the finish line a second faster!
