William Funnell writes history as five time winner of The Al Shira'aa Derby at Hickstead

The top three who shared the honours in the Agria Derby Trial on Friday again went head-to-head in the CSI4* 1.60m The Al Shira'aa Derby. Winner of the 2022 edition, William Funnell, put himself on top being the only clear combination in the jump-off aboard Dublon (Centauer Z). 

Not the fastest round but a sturdy one is what secured the victory for 2022 Derby Winner, William Funnell (GBR). The Brit broke the record as it's his fifth time holding the Boomerang Trophy on Hickstead grounds. Last year the pair was the runner-up in the Derby class. 

William Whitaker (GBR), who stated earlier that the Derby is all about the power and not so much the speed, did have the fastest round with Flamboyant III (Cardento) but two faults in the jump-off kept them in second position. For the 14 years old Dutch Warmblood, it was his first year jumping the Derby. Brazil's Carlos Ribas, completed the top three with his Juan Van't Arkelhof (Diamant de Semilly). 

Shane Breen (IRL) came in fourth with the nine years old Fanfan de Beaufour and shared this place with France's Emeric George and Dune du Ru (Vagabond de La Pomme).
