As the breeding season kicks off, the auction season is once again reaching its peak. This year, many brothers and sisters of top horses will be offered at auctions. New reproductive technologies are innovative, but — according to Kees van den Oetelaar — we’re better off thinking long-term! He grew up around horses but carved his own path, with strong opinions on both sport and breeding. "The way we’re breeding now, we’re basically throwing away what’s been built over the last 100 years," says the Dutchman. "How breeding should evolve depends on what our successors want. If, in 50 years, we all want the same type of horse, then we should just keep going like this."
