From 13th - 15th May, the very best riders will continue their campaign in the world’s dramatic show jumping series, heading to the beautiful destination of Club de Campo Villa de Madrid where thousands of spectators will be treated to a dazzling display of top-class sport and entertainment across three days.
Two-time LGCT Grand Prix winner already this year and current Championship leader on 99 points, Ludger Beerbaum has chosen to sit this stage out giving the opportunity for Michael Duffy who will be hoping a good result in Spain will slingshot him ahead in the race to become the 2022 titleholder. With 40 points available for a LGCT Grand Prix win, Duffy knows that keeping the momentum as the season unfolds will be key to coming out on top in Riyadh at the season finale in October.
Young gun Gilles Thomas currently in third place in the Championship race will be looking to continue his incredible form from Mexico and Miami as the back to back European stages get underway in the heart of Spain while leading lady of the year so far, Katrin Eckermann, will continue her championship campaign in Madrid with her talented string of horses.
Local fans will be out to support home hero Eduardo Alvarez Aznar, the Spanish star has previously stood on the podium in the LGCT Grand Prix of Madrid but will he be able to claim his first-ever LGCT Grand Prix win this year on home turf? As well as last year's silver medalist in the LGCT Super Grand Prix, Sergio Alvarez Moya, aiming to pick up his golden ticket again.
Previous winners of the LGCT Grand Prix of Madrid will also be out for glory with Marcus Ehning and last year's champion Olivier Robert both lining up in the starting box flexing their muscles in preparation for a venue they know and love. It’s set to be a thriller of an event, with plenty of big names to throw into the mix, including the likes of Harrie Smolders, Darragh Kenny, Denis Lynch, Pieter Devos, Bart Bles, Christian Kukuk, Tobias Meyer, Brian Moggre, Spencer Smith, Malin Baryard-Johnsson and Olivier Philippaerts just a handful of A-listers in action.
