Matthew Sampson Wins By A ‘Whisper’

Matthew Sampson of Great Britain leapt to victory today in the AON Cup, the only CSI5* event on day three of the The ‘Continental’, presented by Rolex.

He and the 11-year-old One Whispe r(Daniel) beat yesterday’s top rider, Canadian Erynn Ballard with Fave D’Authuit (Cornet Obolensky), by nearly half a second in the jump off, coming in at a clean 39.26s compared to Ballard’s 39.62 on the 350m course, featuring 13 obstacles and 16 efforts.


Brazil’s Gabriel De Matos Machado and his Belgian Warmblood-gelding, Donner (Thunder vd Zuuthoeve) came third at 39.81s.


The pair referred, Daniel Bluman, aboard Corbie V.V. (Cornet Obolensky), to the fourth place. In front of her home-crowd, Alicia Gadban-Lewis completed the top five aboard Beneficial (Banderas).
