Four-star eventer Boyd Martin and his wife, dressage rider Silva Martin, welcomed their first child, a boy, on Sept. 23 at 8 a.m. at the Chester County Hospital in Pennsylvania. Nox Christoph Martin was born via planned C-section as a precaution because of Silva's previous traumatic brain injury. He weighed 8 lbs. and is 22 inches long. Boyd confirmed that mother and baby are resting comfortably and will remain in the hospital for another couple of days for observation. The couple wanted an unusual name, so they chose Nox, and decided on Christoph for his middle name after Silva's late father. The couple was deciding between Ross, Boyd's late father's name, or Christoph, and Christoph won the coin toss, manned by fellow Australian eventer Ryan Wood, who was chosen as Nox's godfather. “The baby is happy and healthy and has 10 fingers and toes," said Boyd. "I think we’re in good shape. It’s an exciting new part of our life, and I’m very excited to enter the next phase of parenting.”
