No fewer than 191 seven year old horses had their first qualifier for the FEI WBFSH Jumping World Breeding Championship at Zangersheide, Lanaken. Guido Franchi kept a strong Irish team behind him, winning this opening class aboard Mistique.
The Dutch bred stallion by Aganix du Seigneur stayed clear of the poles of the 1m40 high jumps and cleared the second phase of the course with five seconds less than Bertram Allan. The Irish rider was his own biggest competitor as he took second and third place. Aboard Raffaella (Kaiser van het Lambroeck) he stayed only one hundredths of a second ahead of himself with Huricane de Champloue (Windows vh Costersveld).
Compatriot Jason Foley steered Mendoza VDL (Harley VDL) to fourth place, leaving Michael Pender and HHS Mercedes (Can Ya Makan) on five with the smallest difference.
