This marks a major milestone for Belgium, as it will be the first time the country hosts the senior European Championship in jumping. The initiative was driven by a collaborative effort between the Royal Belgian Equestrian Federation (KBRSF), Paardensport Vlaanderen, and sports event specialist Golazo. Their joint bid, submitted in late 2024, was chosen by the FEI as the winning proposal.

A Five-Day Equestrian Showcase in the Heart of Horse Country

Set to become a major highlight on the European equestrian calendar, the 2027 edition will welcome top riders from around 20 countries, each eligible to send four representatives. The venue will accommodate up to 8,000 spectators per day over the course of five days in early August.

KBRSF President Stephan Detry emphasized the importance of hosting major championships for growing public interest in the sport:

“Belgium plays a significant role within the FEI, yet has rarely hosted championships. For senior-level jumping, this is a first. With Golazo as our partner, we aim to build a long-term strategy—this championship is just the beginning of a new, ambitious era for Belgian equestrian sport, targeting consistent hosting of European and World Championships across disciplines.”

Paardensport Vlaanderen Chair Glenn Maes highlighted the cultural relevance of the event:

“The passion for horses runs deep in Flanders—it’s in our DNA. Hosting this championship in Waregem, a historic hub of equestrian sport, brings jumping to the heart of our heritage. We’re also excited to link this to the Year of the Horse campaign, which aims to showcase every aspect of horse culture to the public.”

Kristof Chanterie, Mayor of Waregem, expressed pride in the city’s selection:

“Bringing the European Championships to Waregem is a true honor. In August 2027, just ahead of the 180th edition of Waregem Koerse, we’ll not only be the horse capital of Flanders—but of Europe. With top-tier infrastructure, experienced organizers, and a warm community, we’re ready to deliver an unforgettable championship.”
