On Friday night, Giulia Martinengo Marquet secured a home win aboard Delta Del'Isle in the CSI5*-W 1m55 Selleria Equipe World Cup Qualifier, counting for the Longines Ranking.
One, two, three! After Emanuele Gaudiano's one-two punch in the first two races of the day of the CSI5*-W, at Jumping Verona Italy closed a fantastic tris with Giulia Martinengo Marquet in Prize No. 3 presented by Equipe (timed cat. with jump-off; h 1.55; €56,800), qualifier for Sunday's GP, the fourth leg of the Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ 2024-2025.
The race was settled in a packed barrage, in which 15 of the 20 riders promoted from the base course took part.
Riding Delta del'Isle, an 11-year-old Selle Français gelding, the 45-year-old Friulian-born and Veneto-adopted horsewoman achieved the fastest of the four clear rounds of the barrage (35“87), outdistancing German Mario Stevens (37”27, on Starissa FRH) by 1"40. The next three courses were not error-free, and so Giulia was able to exult, kissed first by her husband Stefano Cesaretto and then by her daughter Bianca.
The podium was completed by Dutchman Kevin Jochems (37“74, on Camille van de Helle), the other net from the barrage was achieved by French rider Lara Tryba (39”86, on Memphis Z).
"I am proud of Delta: he is a champion, the strongest horse I have ever ridden, at the stable we call him ‘the Prince ’ - the words of a moved Giulia - And I am proud of my whole team. Jumping Verona is my home horse competition for me, so a victory like this is even more special. On the course I felt incredible joy after the decisive net. For which I have to thank Marcus Ehning, because he advised me to ride wide and not tight before the cage-that was really valuable!"
For Martinengo, today's was the second career victory in the Jumping Verona arena, following her 2014 victory with Pop Lady d'Elle.
