Five riders reached the jump-off in the LGCT Grand Prix in Valkenswaard. The 1.60m course caused six out of seven riders to make faults in the initial round.
Edwina Tops-Alexander was the first to go in her home arena, riding Fellow Castlefield. The Australian rider on the 14-year-old KWPN horse, bred by Martien Liefhebber, incurred four penalty points with a time of 42.06 seconds.
Jérôme Guéry was Belgium's representative in this main event in Valkenswaard. He rode the 13-year-old Careca LS Elite, a descendant of Carusso LS La Silla. Unfortunately, three rails fell, but they finished with a slightly faster time of 41.59 seconds.
Next up was Harrie Smolders. Competing in front of his home crowd, he entered the ring for the second time with his Olympic reserve, Monaco N.O.P. The son of Cassini II kept the rails up, putting the pair in the lead with a time to beat of 41.26 seconds.
Representing Italy, Lorenzo de Luca rode Denver de Talma, a descendant of Vigo Cece. A smooth ride resulted in a time of 40.06 seconds, and the rails remained untouched. The only rider who could still take the victory was Henrik von Eckermann. The world number one rode the 13-year-old KWPN mare Glamour Girl. The daughter of Zirocco Blue VDL gave her best effort, but one jumping fault placed them in third, despite a fast time of 39.61 seconds.
