Winning start for Emanuele Gaudiano and Nikolaj de Music in Riyadh

The heat is on in Riyadh, where the exciting denouement of the LGCT is scheduled this week. In the first individual challenge, a 1m45 high five-star course was presented to the just under fifty combinations.

The victory had a Belgian edge because under the saddle of the winning Italian, Emanuele Gaudiano, was the BWP stallion Nikolaj de Music. The son of Kannan bred by Walter Lelie stayed more than half a second ahead of Victor Bettendorf and his Zangersheide mare, Cancun Torel Z (Cosinhus, F. Francois-Xavier Guyard). Julien Epaillard concluded the top three on the back of Donatello d'Auge (Jarnac).

At four came Michael Pender with the 8-year-old HHS Cyprus. The son of Cornet Obolensky, along with Eoin McMahon's Kokomo B (Kannan), was the youngest horse in this class. McMahon and Kokomo B finished ninth. Jérôme Guery immediately showed good form with the Carussa LS La Silla son Careca LS Elite, recording a smooth clear round that was good for fifth place.
