The team of the Andalucía Sunshine Tour deeply mourns the passing of Antonio Blázquez, founder of the circuit and a key figure in the development of international showjumping in Spain.
Antonio Blázquez was the driving force behind a project that transformed Dehesa Montenmedio into one of Europe’s leading winter showjumping venues. His vision led to the creation of a multi-week circuit capable of bringing together thousands of horses and riders from around the world, placing Andalusia at the heart of the international equestrian calendar.
For more than three decades, his commitment to organisational excellence, continuous improvement of the facilities and the international projection of the event turned the Andalucía Sunshine Tour into a major sporting, economic and tourism reference for the province of Cádiz and the wider Andalusian region.
His legacy goes far beyond competition results. Under his leadership, the circuit grew into a key platform for the development of young horses, the progression of emerging talents and the preparation of top-level combinations. Generations of professionals found here an arena in which to compete and advance at the highest standard.
Tomorrow Sunday, before the 1.55 Grand Prix, a tribute will be held in his honour in Arena 3 prior to the start of the class, bringing together the entire circuit team and all those who wish to pay their respects to the man who made this equestrian dream a reality.
