Eventing Officials Club secures partial win in case against FEI

© Houou Tomita

At the centre of the dispute was a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed by both parties in 2018 for a four-year term and officially expiring on 5 June 2022. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) was asked to determine whether the agreement had been extended, whether the FEI’s termination was legally valid, and whether any contractual obligations had been breached. The tribunal found that the MoU had not been formally renewed for a new fixed term. However, both parties continued to act as though the agreement remained in force after its expiry. On that basis, the CAS concluded that the cooperation had effectively continued on an indefinite basis.
