The Swedish showjumping team loses one of its steady anchors. The 16-year-old top mare For Killy, the success horse of Swedish rider Amanda Landeblad, is retiring with immediate effect. The mare sustained a tendon injury last Friday during the CSIO5* competition in La Baule, France.
The incident took place on Friday. Although Amanda Landeblad and the For Pleasure daughter crossed the finish line with just four penalties, the mare suddenly began to limp right after the flags.
"I felt immediately that something was wrong," Landeblad reflects. "She was examined right away by our team veterinarian Rasmus and the veterinary team on-site. The ultrasound confirmed a tendon injury in her right front leg. Consequently, we made the immediate decision that she will no longer return to the sport."
An Impressive Track Record
The retirement of For Killy (owned by Jacobsbergs Stuteri) marks the end of a highly successful international career. In recent years, the chestnut mare has been a mainstay for the Swedish team under the guidance of chef d'équipe Henrik Ankarcrona. Landeblad and For Killy were part of the winning team at the 2024 Falsterbo Nations Cup, jumped to several podium finishes in prestigious Grands Prix, and represented Sweden at the European Championship in 2025.
The duo was also named on the longlist for the World Championships this year. Although that dream has now been shattered, Landeblad remains grounded and grateful: "Of course, this is incredibly sad, especially with the World Championships in mind. But I mostly think about all the unbelievably beautiful moments we experienced together. She brought me to the highest level and into the biggest arenas. The most important thing now is that she can recover at home in peace."
A Future in Breeding
A beautiful new chapter on the pastures now awaits For Killy. "The plan is for her to become a mother now, and hopefully, we will get a foal from her in the future," says the rider.
Chef d'équipe Henrik Ankarcrona also responded with gratitude: "It has been a fantastic journey with For Killy. She has meant an enormous amount to our national team over the years, and I hope she enjoys a wonderful life in retirement."
Although Landeblad will have to miss her top horse, she remains in the running for a spot on the Swedish World Championship squad with her second iron in the fire, Springfield 21 (also owned by Jacobsbergs Stuteri).
