Ireland's Billy Twomey did the unthinkable in Hamburg. After a period of 19 years the show jumping rider is the first non-German rider to win the Hamburg Derby. Together with the 13-year-old Diaghilev (Vangelis S x Handstreich), Twomey moved on to the jump-off as one of the nine riders on four faults from round one. The pair finished clear in a time of 49.96 seconds. The last foreign rider who won the Hamburg Derby was Hugo Simon. British rider Nigel Coupe finished as runner-up on the gelding Golvers Hill (Ricardo Z x Clover Hill). The combination was almost two seconds behind in the jump-off. The best German rider was Andre Thieme and Voigtsdorfs Quonschbob (Querlybet Hero x Caletto II). Janne-Friederike Meyer, who is also the defending champion of the DKB Riders Tour, finished fourth with Cellagon Anna (Asca x Contendro I). The derby was the second leg of the 2016 DKB-Riders Tour. Currently it is Andre Thieme on top of the standings with a total of 28 points.
