No less than 36 horse-rider combinations took part in today's 1.60m Grand Prix at the Longines Athina Onassis Horse Show in St.Tropez. The temperatures soared throughout the class but the heat did not deter the horses or riders, especially not Marco Kutscher (GER) and Cornet's Cristallo (Cornet Obolensky x Pilot), who would later take the win. For the second year running in this stunning new location in St.Tropez, the Athina Onassis Horse Show, previously held in Rio de Janeiro, attracted some of the world's best riders.  The technical track designed by Luc Musette (BEL) posed some difficulties for some, with riders like Rodrigo Pessoa, Ben Maher and Edwina Tops Alexander failing to make the jump-off. Twelve riders progressed to the jump-off, where Spanish rider Sergio Alvarez Moya took an early lead on Carlo 273. With each rider failing to beat his time it looked as though we were heading for a Spanish victory. Second last to go Marco Kutscher had other ideas.
