Francois Mathy Jr. secures his start in the GLOCK’s 3* Grand Prix

Qualifikation für den GLOCK's 3* GRAND PRIX | World Ranking Francois Mathy Jr. secures his start in the GLOCK’s 3* Grand Prix Today for the first time participants could gather valuable points for the Longines FEI World Ranking List by contesting the CSI3* GLOCK’s Perfection Tour at the Glock Horse Performance Center. Furthermore the show-jumping test over 1.50 m in two rounds also counted as first qualification for the GLOCK’s 3* Grand Prix on Sunday with a prize money totalling 100,000 euros. Forty-seven top-notch duos faced the challenge and all penalty-free riders competed for victory in the decisive second round. Up to the 13th of 15 duos, the leadership changed continuously. But then the winner of yesterday’s opening competition, Francois Mathy Jr (BEL) in the saddle of 13-year-old BWP gelding D’Atlantique Royale, delivered the absolute best time of 38.16 seconds. “My horse jumped outstandingly. Since I’ll be riding him on Sunday in the Grand Prix, tomorrow he’ll have a day off”, said the likeable winner. “I’d like to thank the Gaston and Kathrin Glock family for offering such perfect conditions in a unique atmosphere. I look forward to coming back.” The just 17-year-old great talent Sanne Thijssen (NED) came quite close to Francois’ time, just like yesterday. With her nimble KWPN mare Warette, having a withers height of just 1.64 m, she secured second place in 38.16 seconds. Third place went to German rider Marc Bettinger in the saddle of Barino in a penalty-free time of 38.37 seconds. World Championship participant Markus Saurugg (AUT/St) and his daughter of Acorado, Texas I, also remained penalty-free in the GLOCK’s Perfection Tour and secured fifth place. Punkte-Springprüfung mit Joker Felix Hassmann in the fast lane in GLOCK’s Perfection Tour Having already taken third place yesterday in the CSI3* GLOCK’s Opening, German rider Felix Hassmann presented himself in top shape in the saddle of his Brazilian gelding SL Brazonado. Today, the duo were able to top this in GLOCK’s Perfection Tour, staged as an accumulator with joker over 1.40 m. Of the twelve duos reaching the full score of 65 thanks to a penalty-free ride, Felix and his eleven-year-old grey horse were the fastest with 44.95 seconds and celebrated victory. "It’s great to win, but SL Brazonado is not so keen on the award ceremonies. That’s why his stable mate is allowed to stand here now”, said a smiling Felix in the winner’s interview. First runner up was from Germany. Current Olympic winner, world and double European champion in eventing, Michael Jung, piloted his new horse Quite’s Prince over the finishing line in 46.43 seconds, taking second place. Third place went to the winner of yesterday’s opening, Karel Cox (BEL). In the saddle of the Corrado I son Confidant, he completed the course of 320 m in 47.37 seconds. Once more, Salzburg-based rider Jürgen Krackow, in the saddle of eleven-year-old KWPN mare Ailonka, provided the best hosting country result. The 34 seven and eight-year-old horses gave very attractive performances in the 2-phase show-jumping test over 1.30 m and exactly twelve of them remained penalty-free. The fastest time of 33.36 seconds was delivered by eight-year-old daughter of Con Air, Desiree v. Marienhof, under the saddle of Irish rider Cameron Hanley. “She is an excellent horse. I really think the odds are good for the finale on Sunday”. Second place went to the similarly eight-year-old Zangersheide gelding Cougar Z G&C and his rider Cecilie Hatteland (NOR) in 34.12 seconds. Third place went to the Belgian-raised daughter of Diamant de Semilly, Isibel d’O, under Jonna Ekberg (SWE) in 35.25 seconds. The 23 registered duos sped off the line in the fault/time test over 1.30 m and the first three were separated by less than three tenths of a second. In the end it was Salzburg-based rider Ute Antonie Meinhart who prevailed. In her first start in the GHPC she immediately made best time in 64.47 seconds with her eleven-year-old Caretino son, Cabalou. "This tournament is completely different from all the others. All of the context, the evening programme, the many surprises – it is beyond words”, she said, beaming in the winner’s interview. "Today my horse Cabalou really helped so much and exerted himself. I’m happy!” Nina Barbour (GBR), in the saddle on Douglas Delight, was narrowly beaten and lined up for second place in 64.55 seconds. For these 16 riders from six nations, today’s course ran over 1.15 m and six of them cleared it with no penalties. As in yesterday’s opening competition, victory stayed in the hands of the hosting country, Austria. For once again Birgit Peintner from Carinthia, with her 14-year-old gelding Gaspari, managed to deliver the fastest time at the GHPC. In 51.51 seconds the duo sped across the finishing line, leaving the competition with no chance. "No question, I wanted to win today, and it worked out ", said Birgit Peintner in her winner’s interview. "Conditions here are perfect for both rider and horse and this is the loveliest tournament that I know. My thanks to the Gaston and Kathrin Glock family." Second place also went to Austria, courtesy of Theresa Kriessmann (St) and son of Rutowski, Rochester Bounty, the duo completing the test without penalties in 56.03 seconds.
