As last to go in a nine-rider jump-off, Gregory Wathelet stole the show on home soil at the CSI4* Jumping International Mons – winning the Grand Prix on Riesling du Monselet (Kashmir van Schuttershof x Laeken). Regardless of the pouring rain, the seats were filled with an enthusiastic home crowd who got value for their ticket money as Wathelet went all in to win. Gregory – who by now should be known to everybody after his bridle less performance in Paris this weekend – was cheered on wildly for every stride Riesling du Monselet made, and although the couple had a hairy moment coming very close into the third last vertical everything else went according to plan and they crossed the finish line on a clean sheet and with the fastest time of the day at 43.04 seconds. With his fantastic jump-off, Gregory pushed living legend John Whitaker on Argento (Arko x Gasper) down to second with their previous leading time of 43.59 seconds. John was also much appreciated by the crowds, who got to see some of the world's best riders in top form as Steve Guerdat finished third aboard Zanzibar (Tangelo van de Zuuthoeve x Ahorn).
