Johny Pals wins the Derby of Vlaanderen, Memorial Nick Motmans

Only two horse-rider combinations stayed clear in the Derby of Vlaanderen at the 'Longines Spring Classic of Flanders'. This memorial competition for Belgian rider, Nick Motmans, was eventually won by a good friend of the passed rider, Dutch Johny Pals. Aboard the 11 year old gelding Urjul van Generhese (by Indian Gold) he speeded to the victory in this 1.60m Derby. "Initially it was not my plan to jump with this horse. I recently won a 1.35m derby with this grey horse in Arezzo, but never expected he was ready for it. Eventually it was Karel Cox who persuade me to ride the Derby with Urjul." William Whitaker was the second clear rider in the basic course. Together with Glenavadra Brilliant (by Brilliant Lad) he decided to retire in the Jump-off. Belgian rider, Jeroen Appelen, before already second in the Grand Prix of this competition, finished third. Aboard the 10 year old Filesto van de Herkant he finished his Derby with a total of 2 jumping faults, resulting in 8 points. 11209715_10152971289218271_4663387853940737610_n The top five was completed by Shane Breen (Calido Boy) and Donaat Brondeel (Breemeersen Crescendo).
