It were the two first riders in Thursday’s 1m50 course in Falsterbo that set the target that was impossible to catch in Falsterbo, Sweden. As first to go in the 58 riders class, Belgian Ludo Philippaerts went in on Challenge vd Begijnakker (Celano Z x Palestro vd Begijnakker) and rode an incredible round over the twelve fence track – that included a combination at 5a and b and a triple combination (oxer-vertical-vertical) at 10abc – crossing the finish line on the time of 64:44 seconds. None of those to come could catch the Belgian rider, no matter their efforts.
Katharina Offel – second to go – came closest aboard B Once Z (Baloubet du Rouet x Lavaletto) finishing at 66:72 seconds. This nine year old mare is really something special, and shows great promise for the future under the Ukrainian rider. Another Ukrainian rider, Cassio Rivetti, also did very well to finish third on the beautiful Niack de L’Abbaye (Diamant de Semilly x Rocky du Carel). Cassio came in as number 49, and rode an efficient round on the stallion with a time of 68:44 pushing Leon Thijssen down to fourth on Haerthago (Heartbreaker x Carthago Z). The top five was completed by the Danish Andreas Schou and the 13-year-old Arpeggio-gelding Allerdings. The class also served as a qualifier for Sunday's Grand Prix.
