Last year at the XXII Central American and Caribbean Games, held in Veracruz, Mexico the Venezuelan Team were crowned champions, but now eleven months after the Games the Colombian team have been awarded team Gold. This follows after Venezuelan rider Pablo Barrios personally tested positive for a substance that was found in his blood pressure medication. The FEI states that all athletes must declare what medications they are on, Barrios failed to declare the substance that was in his medication as he was unaware that it was in his medication. As a result he has been stripped of his Gold medals and his scores have been excluded from both the Team and Individual Finals. However, the Venezuelan score is still good enough for second place while Guatemala takes third place. Roberto Teran (COL), who finished with a silver medal in the Individual Final will now be awarded with the Gold medal. Emanuel Andrade moves up into silver medal position and Hector Florentino, from the Dominican Republic will take bronze.
