The Chepstow 2* Int’l Big Tour Grand Prix at the Wales & West Showground saw Peter Charles with the extremely scopey ABC Quantum Cruise claim the title after a hard fought jump off round which saw fifteen horses come forward. The course had been designed by Bernardo Costa Cabral of Portugal and the jump off track was both testing and technical. Of the combinations that jumped clear in the first round it was only six that managed to do the same in the jump off. Yazmin Davis with Zilverster finished in eventual 3rd place having taken an early lead stopping the clock in 43.46 seconds. It was last years winner, Keith Shore with Mystic Hurrican, that managed to take that from her when he jumped clear managing to shave just over a second from her time to break the finish line in 42.43 seconds. Peter, who has extremely high hopes for the 8 year-old gelding ABC Quantum Cruise whom he has been producing slowly with a future at top level competition in mind, couldn’t have delivered a better round. His forward and rhythmic round saw them put in a brilliant clear taking in a tight turn to the last line and a gallop to the final vertical followed by an oxer to finish clear by almost two seconds faster than Keith in a time of 40.47 seconds. Talking afterwards Peter commented “It was a good class to win and in my opinion he is the best eight year-old in the world right now”. Go here for full results
