Peter Symth wins Leinster Summer Tour

Co Tyrone’s Peter Smyth and the gelding Admiran Cassio were crowned 2014 Leinster Summer Tour champions, following the final round of the series at the Irish Breeders Classic in Barnadown Co Wexford. Trailing league leaders Eddie Moloney with Pashmina K by two points heading into the final leg, Smyth overtook Kilkenny based Moloney thanks to a double clear round in 24.18 seconds with the son of Cassin I, which saw him take third place at Barnadown where the final round carried points and a half. Admiran Cassio is owned by Peter Mulrine from Co Donegal and speaking afterwards, new LST champion Peter Smyth, who collected a very generous €4,000 for his LST title win said, “It is brilliant to win this series especially with the pressure on in the final leg because I was trailing Eddie Moloney. The Leinster Summer Tour suits a large group of horses and riders, we have the National Grand Prix and Premier Series here in Ireland, but this is an excellent tour for young riders, or for horses without a lot of experience. Admirian Cassio is a 12 year old but he really has only the experience of a seven year old and I will now move him on to jump in the Autumn Grand Prix league”. Victory in the Shires Equestrian Products sponsored final round of the LST at Barnadown went to Co Waterford’s Francis Connors with Karen Mc Anerney’s eight year old Le One gelding Oilean Uno, following a double clear in 23.66 seconds, while Irish National Champion Greg Broderick finished as runner up with Rincoola Black Adder, Elizabeth Forte’s nine year-old gelding by VDL Douglas. Kilkenny’s Marion Hughes finished with two horses in the top six, taking fourth place with HHS Dublin and sixth spot with HHS Nektarina, while Phillip Carey grabbed fifth spot with Ton Soleil F. Eddie Moloney and Pashmina K finished the series at LST runners up, collecting €1,500, while Gerard Clarke and Kings Best took home €500 for finishing third Co Derry’s Daniel Coyle was named the leading young rider of the LST and will receive a week’s training plus accommodation for horse and rider with Olympic bronze medallist Cian O’Connor at his Karlswood base in Co Meath.. Meanwhile Sara Pothman Cullen from Co Carlow was the winner of the 1 meter section of the LST with her own mare Arkana. The 1.10m section of the tour was divided between 11 riders Sara Gorman(Take a Gamble), Mark Murphy(Horseware Foxy), Mary Flynn(Goodle), Tim Mc Donagh(Michlem Master), Marie Lanigan(Countess Rock), Anne Lambert(Kinninick Bouncer) Patrick Murphy(You Two Babe), Amanda Hyland (Pakino), Jack Hutchinson(Next Flight), Nicola Ross Watt(Cainby) and Paddy O Donnel with Grovine King Cobra. The 1.20m LST was won by Ciara Morris from Wexford while Mark Murphy from Dundalk Co Louth was the winner of the Young Riders bursary in this section. The organizers of the Leinster Summer Tour would like to thank all of the competitors and sponsors who helped to make the 2014 LST such a success and would especially like to thank everyone who contributed to their very successful Greyhound night at Shelbourne Park during Dublin Horse Show week.
