Shane Breen ensures Irish victory in Derby Trial of Hickstead

The Irish rider Shane Breen won the 1,60m-high CSI4* Derby Trial in Hickstead this afternoon with Can Ya Makan (Canturo). With this twelve-year-old gelding, he was able to reach the finish of the jump-off in 57,76 seconds. Only three other combinations started in the jump-off, since only a total of four riders went clear in the first round. Holly Smith claimed the second place with Hearts Destiny (Heart Throb) in 59,59 seconds, about four seconds faster than Harriet Nutall with A Touch Imperious (Touchdown). Richard Howley and Notis Me (Otis) finished fourth with 16 penalties in the jump-off. William Funnell was able to take the fifth place aboard Billy Buckingham, a son of Billy Congo.
