Meredith Darst (Zone 5) and Lucy Deslauriers (Zone 2) battled it out for the lead in the First Young Rider Qualifier today at the Kentucky Horse Park - NAJYRC. In the end, Maddie edged Lucy by less than a tenth of a second -- 75.58 and 75.65 respectively. Maddie led the victory gallop and holds a score of zero for the first of five rounds to determine the Individual Young Rider gold medalist. Lucy trails with 0.04 points. Victoria Colvin (Zone 3) is third. An unlucky rail added four seconds to her time, but with a score of 1.41 she is well in the hunt. Consistency will be key in tomorrow's Nations Cup competition. We will name team champions, and the rounds count for the second and third legs of the Individual Championship. Zone 10 had a tough day. Mackenzie Drazan is 15th (5.65 pts.), Morgan Dickerson is 19th (9.12 pts.), Uma O'Neill is 22nd (13.25 pts.), Sydney Callaway is 23rd (15.57 pts,) and Sarah Baz has 37.75 points. Let's see what tomorrow brings!
