This week the top of the show jumping world gathers in the sunny, luxurious Cannes, France. We asked World Champion of Young Horses, Gudrun Patteet, to share this #LGCTCannes experience with us. Here is DAY 1: On Wednesday the Taxi companies in France decided to strike, not immediately a very welcoming arrival. After my flight had an hour delay, I arrived without any Taxi available. Eventually I found transportation in an old, dirty, stacked car. Isn't it ironical? I was on the way to one of the most luxurious competitions in the world, with probably the least luxurious way of transportation… but it doesn't matter that much. Around midnight I arrived in my super nice, clean, hotel. Finally! Time to sleep, my alarm is going of at 6 o'clock in the morning… The next day I left for the competition ground around 6.40. Together with my trainer Philippe Vandelannoitte, I arrived when most CSI5*-riders were already warming up their horses. I decided to start the day with Pebles. Despite the super footing in the arena, and nice accommodation, he felt a little bit tensed. Conclusion was that our ride took longer as expected. After Pebles I tacked up Ferly. She is a sweetheart to ride. Once I was finished temperatures were already high, time to go back to the hotel, we only need to ride at 7pm and 9.30pm... Just like many other riders, I decided to enjoy a massage at the SPA of the hotel. I enjoyed every moment of it, but had to return to the competition at latest 5.30pm. Our first day in the competition arena was with a mixed feeling. Pebles jumped a great round in the 1m45-class. We jumped one rail down in the second phase, a perfect preparation for tomorrow's 1m50 competition. Ferly, however, was a bit spooky. She wanted this competition to be over to fast. Eventually we left the arena with some faults, it is a nice preparation for Saturday's Grand Prix, but we'll see... Cannes Cannes
