“I’m a big fan of the Emerald van ’t Ruytershof lineage,” explains Suus Kuyten. “I like their carefulness, intelligence and working attitude. We bought Prince Eric as a foal, and besides his pedigree, I loved his strong build and how easily he moved. He is very easy to work with, shows plenty of scope and has that typical Emerald technique over the fence. For me, he has all the ingredients to become a very exciting horse for the future.” 

Grandson of Babbe van ’t Roosakker

This exceptional showjumping talent brings together two of the world’s most successful damlines. Prince Eric is a grandson of Grand Prix mare Babbe van ’t Roosakker, who competed successfully under Michel Hécart. This makes his dam Destinée de la Roque a sibling to five international 1.50/1.60m showjumpers, including Giorgi van ’t Hagenhof, Geena van ’t Roosakker and Erco van ’t Roosakker. Granddam Babbe van ’t Roosakker is, in turn, a half-sister to three top-level performers, including Ben Maher’s multiple Grand Prix winner and European Championship medallist Cella. This prominent Belgian performance line then continues through the influential Usha van ’t Roosakker. 

World-class genes on both sides

Prince Eric is not only related to numerous international showjumpers through his damline, but also benefits from outstanding jumping genes on his sire’s side. His sire Emerald van ’t Ruytershof was a key member of the Dutch team under Harrie Smolders and has made a major impact in breeding with offspring such as Igor, Imerald van ’t Voorhof, Mandato van de Neerheide and Nikka van de Bisschop. Suus Kuyten clearly recognizes the typical Emerald van ’t Ruytershof technique in Prince Eric. His way of jumping, natural scope and carefulness show many of the qualities she appreciates in Emerald’s offspring.

A different approach to auctions

Instead of presenting a large collection, every edition focuses on just one carefully selected horse. “The market has changed. Buyers are searching for quality all year round. With this concept, I can offer my clients something extra alongside the live auction in December.” Kuyten explains.
