A new research, led by the Austrian Equestrian federation confirms that a Covid-19 infection risk in riding schools is very low. The constant air flow lowers the risk significantly.
The research shows that when four riders are present in a small indoor arena of 20 by 40 m and 5.5m high there is a 1 / 4000 chance to get infected if one of these riders is a carrier. When wearing a simple face mask the chance reduces to 1 / 10.000.
This confirms that although indoor, equestrian sports can be considered as an outdoor activity in any situation.
In Austria riding schools are closed at this moment. The federation hopes to reopen the riding schools with the results of this conducted research.
