When the FEI World Championships Aachen 2026 get underway at the Allianz Park from August 11th to 23rd, the focus will extend far beyond the quest for gold, silver, and bronze. Behind the scenes of this historic event, the Aachen-Laurensberger Rennverein (ALRV) is deploying a massive infrastructure and support strategy centered on a single, uncompromising priority: the premier care of the horses and the unsung heroes who look after them, their grooms.
The centerpiece of Aachen’s commitment to horse welfare is the completion of a state-of-the-art stable complex. Replacing five legacy buildings, the new facility delivers 204 spacious stalls built to surpass the highest international standards.
-
Optimal Stable Climate: An advanced ventilation system guarantees superior air circulation and temperature control, directly promoting the health and recovery of the horses.
-
A Peaceful Sanctuary: Designed as a sheltered retreat, the stables feature elevated ceilings and enhanced dimensions to give horses a quiet space to decompress from high-stakes competition.
-
Tailored Elite Nutrition: Through a partnership with official feed supplier HAVENS Pferdefutter, the organizers are catering to individual dietary needs. Around 1,750 sacks of specialized, team-customized feed will be available to ensure optimal health, digestion, and peak condition.
"The well-being of the horses has always been our top priority," explains ALRV Board Member, Birgit Rosenberg. "These new stables demonstrate our commitment to genuine animal welfare." Dressage legend Isabell Werth echoed this praise, labeling the new environment "true Champions League quality."
Uncompromising Accessibility and Ground Care
Welfare at Aachen is holistic, extending from the physical grounds to the inclusive design of the venue:
-
Year-Round Footing Perfection: An experienced, dedicated team meticulously maintains the grass and sand arenas year-round to ensure optimal, shock-absorbing footing that protects the horses' joints and limbs.
-
Universal Accessibility: In a major step forward for Para-Dressage and inclusive sport, the new complex features a modern guidance system, accessible restrooms, showers, and dedicated storage areas for electronic assistive devices.
Putting Grooms in the Spotlight
Grooms are the heart and soul of equestrian sport—acting as caretakers, logistics experts, and trusted confidants to the world's best horses. Recognizing that a horse's well-being is directly tied to the well-being of its caretaker, the organizers have revolutionized the on-site experience for grooms at the 2026 World Championships.
| Feature | Benefit for Grooms |
| Optimized Layout | Short walking distances between stables and competition rings to reduce physical fatigue. |
| Dedicated Grooms' Lounge | A spacious, exclusive area featuring tailored dining and relaxation facilities to unwind from grueling schedules. |
| Tokens of Appreciation | In partnership with HAVENS, 800 thoughtfully assembled goodie bags will welcome grooms upon arrival as a tangible thank-you for their tireless efforts. |
"For us, top-level sport and animal welfare have always gone hand in hand, and the grooms play a crucial role in this," says Rosenberg. "Making their stay in Aachen as pleasant as possible is a matter close to our hearts."
