Bred in Germany by Henning Mueller-Rulfs, the Hannoverian gelding formed one of the most formidable partnerships of his era alongside Denis Lynch. Together, they reached the pinnacle of the sport, competing at, 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing / Hong Kong, 2010 World Equestrian Games in Lexington, Kentucky and the 2011 European Championships in Madrid

Beyond their championship appearances, the pair claimed numerous major Grand Prix victories across Europe, most notably lifting the coveted Rolex Grand Prix trophy at CHIO Aachen in 2009.

Owner Flaminia Schatzmann–Straumann announced the sad news on social media: "The pain of his loss is so big, but our gratitude for all the wonderful moments, the shared experiences and his unconditional love will remain with us forever," Schatzmann–Straumann wrote. "He fought throughout his entire life, both during his magnificent sporting career and in his well-deserved retirement. He never ceased to impress us with his strength, his determination and his unique character. Right up until his very last day, he enjoyed life to the full and showed us just what a special horse he was."

Denis Lynch: "Lantinus played the most important part in my career"

Denis Lynch also paid an emotional tribute to the horse that defined a pivotal chapter of his riding career: "Lantinus played the most important part in my career. Together we enjoyed many memorable Grand Prix victories, including one of the greatest moments of my career, winning the Aachen Grand Prix," Lynch shared.

"I will always be incredibly grateful to the Straumann family, and especially Thomas Straumann, for giving me the opportunity to ride such an outstanding horse and for the support throughout our time together. A heartfelt thank you also goes to everyone who has cared for Lantinus over the years and made sure he enjoyed the long and happy retirement he deserved. Lantinus leaves behind an incredible legacy and so many memories that I will always cherish. Thank you, Lantinus, you will never be forgotten."
