Unfortunately (for the home crowd) there was no Dutch triumph in the Kralingse Bos this time: the Netherlands team stood at 8 total penalties in the second round, just like Great Britain, the United States, and Switzerland, but Harrie Smolders and Mr. Tac unfortunately did not manage to ride a clear round a second time. Leaving the arena with 4 penalties, the Netherlands finished in fifth place.

Harry Charles was the first to enter the Rotterdam Arena for the jump-off. In an extremely smooth ride, he and LT Holst Freda jumped clear for the third time. He set a time of 31.18 seconds and could only wait and see if his opponents would improve upon it.

America's Marilyn Little entered the jump-off after two smooth, clear rounds and once again gave it her all to beat Charles's time, but she just missed out on the victory. With La Contessa, she clocked a clear 31.25, which ultimately meant second place for the United States.

Jason Smith, riding on behalf of Switzerland, had sat out the first round—the Swiss already had three clear rounds, allowing him to be saved as the drop score. Compared to the others, this combination was the freshest. In the jump-off, he guided Picobello van't Roosakker to a clear 31.64 seconds, securing bronze for Switzerland.

Incredible Horse

Harry Charles was delighted to secure the victory for his team. "It’s really great to be able to ride three clear rounds." He praised his horse, which he has only had under his saddle for a short time. "LT Holst Freda is a dream to ride, an incredible horse."

"She previously competed for New Zealand with Julie Davey, who trained her and is still her owner today. I am very happy that we entered into this partnership, and I hope Julie and her husband were able to watch us via the live broadcast. From the very first moment I rode this horse, I knew how amazing she was. She can even herd cows; she’s really cool."

National coach Di Lampard was highly satisfied with her team's performance. "We love coming to this competition in Rotterdam with the team, and it’s wonderful to be able to peak here this year. We had agreed on a plan beforehand, and it yielded a good result. I felt that the course took excellent account of the horses' welfare in these weather conditions. It is fantastic to win here after a fantastic day of show jumping."
