France’s Cedric Angot stole the show at the Andalucía Sunshine Tour in Vejer de la Frontera, guiding the high-flying Gandor du Fief to a masterclass victory in Friday’s CSI4* 1.50m Grand Prix qualifier against a stacked international field.
In a blistering speed contest around the Montenmedio arena, Angot stopped the clock in a lightning-fast 61.47 seconds aboard the 10-year-old Selle Français gelding (by Upsilon x Corland), bred by Jacques Imbert. The pair’s immaculate turn of foot left their rivals chasing shadows, securing top honors with almost a full second to spare.
Dutch contender Rogier Linssen mounted a formidable challenge to push for the top spot. Riding the 11-year-old CDE mare Moneypenny (by Sea Coast Dont Touch Tiji x For Pleasure), Linssen crossed the timers in an impressive 61.52 seconds, falling just five hundredths of a second short of Angot's mark to claim a brilliant second place.
Ireland's Jessica Burke rounded out the podium with a stellar round aboard Fly for You (by Quaprice Bois Margot x L’arc de Triomphe). Burke delivered a smooth, calculated clear in 62.07 seconds on the 11-year-old Selle Français mare, bred by Jean-Marie Soupasse, to lock down third position.
Home favorite Jesus Garmendia Echevarria took fourth place for Spain with Caramel Blue PS (v. Carambole x Messenger, bred by Gestüt Lewitz) after stopping the clock in 62.56 seconds. France gained another top-five spot as Margaux Rocuet guided Elektra des Premices (v. Kannan x Carthago, bred by Arnaud Bernollin) into fifth in 63.65 seconds, just ahead of Switzerland's Noah Keller aboard the BWP gelding Nestor Vdr (v. Houston x Drossan, bred by Guy Verberckmoes) in sixth.
