It was previously announced that a combination switch is being made in the Dutch European Championships team for A Coruña. The reserve pair Michael Greeve and Denver will move up to the team after Comthago VDL, ridden by Hessel Hoekstra, was deemed not fit to compete in the European Championships. Kevin Jochems, with Camilla van de Helle, is now the new reserve and will compete individually.
National coach Van der Schans commented on the change: “Comthago VDL and Hessel Hoekstra had a refusal at the triple combination during the second round of the Nations Cup in Aachen, and it appears the stallion may have sustained a minor injury. With the horse’s welfare in mind, we want to give him time to recover, and the European Championships, which are a week and a half away, come too soon.”
“As a result, Michael Greeve and Denver are promoted to the team, and I’ve added Kevin Jochems with Camilla van de Helle as the fifth combination. They were first reserve for this position and have already delivered solid performances in several Nations Cups this year. They jumped very well in Aachen, and at the European Championships, they can gain valuable experience, which may benefit us next year with the World Championships in Aachen on the calendar.”
Van der Schans also looked back enthusiastically at the LGCT performances on Saturday:
“Imagine and Beauville are really in top form. I hope they can maintain that through the European Championships and beyond. I had agreed with Kim that she would ride the Grand Prix in Monaco with Imagine N.O.P., and she did so with a very strong result. Beauville won on Friday and also jumped excellently.”
