The first-ever Longines Global Champions Tour on Egyptian soil kicked off today in Cairo. Despite some controversy, top-level sport was on display in the individual Grand Prix qualifier.
Christian Kukuk laid down a masterclass performance at the Longines Global Champions Tour of Cairo, delivering a flawless victory in the GCL Individual Competition. Serving as the direct qualifier for the coveted LGCT Grand Prix, the 1.60m Table A class against the clock presented a stern test for the international field, with clear rounds proving exceptionally hard to come by.
Riding his trusted Olympic partner, the 16-year-old Westphalian gelding Checker 47 (Comme Il Faut, breeder: Wolfgang Kipp), Kukuk showcased supreme precision and pace. The grey gelding produced a breathtaking round to cross the timers untouched in 68.50 seconds, securing top honors by a comfortable margin.
Austria’s Max Kühner claimed the runner-up spot with the only other clear round of the class. Aboard the 10-year-old Oldenburg International gelding Vivo de Muze PS (Vivant). Kühner opted for a measured rhythm to stop the clock in 72.91 seconds.
Italy’s speed maestro Emanuele Gaudiano completed the podium in third place. Partnering the 10-year-old Oldenburg International gelding Chabrello PS (Exelero). Gaudiano incurred a single rail down, but his blistering time of 69.61 seconds made him the fastest of the four-fault combinations.
