Ireland’s Conor Swail has announced the retirement of his iconic showjumping partner Count Me In (Count Grannus x Sherlock Holmes), bred by Friedrich Luessmann and owned by Sandy Lupton and Mannon Farm.
Swail took over the reins from Canada’s Beth Underhill in 2021, and together, he and the now 18-year-old gelding formed one of the most successful partnerships in modern showjumping. Over the past three and a half years, the duo has achieved a remarkable list of victories, including: the 2024 CSI5* 1.60m ATCO Queen elizabeth II Cup at Spruce Meadows, the 2023 1.60m CSI5*-w Longines FEI World Cup in Las Vegas, the 2022 CSIO5* Longines FEI Nations Cup in Dublin, etc.
Their partnership earned Swail nine FEI Grand Prix victories and 56 podium finishes!
“The best horse I’ve ever ridden. It has been such a privilege and honour to be your jockey these past 3.5 years. You brought me to the biggest stages, to dreams I’ve had since childhood. You helped Team Ireland win the Aga Khan, took me to my first World Cup Final, and even added our names to the Queen’s Cup trophy at Spruce Meadows. You were ranked the second-best horse in the world in 2022, and I couldn’t be prouder.” Swail wrote on his social media.
Swail confirmed that Count Me In will enjoy his retirement at Mannon Farms in his hometown of Darragh Cross, Northern Ireland.
At equnews we wish Count Me In a happy retirement
