In just one year, the global equestrian community will return to the place where the unforgettable FEI World Equestrian Games 2006 were held. From August 11th to 23rd, Aachen’s Soers will once again be the scene for gold, silver, and bronze – bringing thrilling contests, remarkable emotions, and lasting memories at the FEI World Championships Aachen 2026.
The finest horses, top riders, and exceptional sport will unite in one spectacular location across six disciplines. Exactly 365 days before the first competition, organizers gathered with dressage legend Isabell Werth (GER) and Olympic show jumping champion Christian Kukuk (GER) to share their excitement for the upcoming FEI World Championships Aachen 2026.
“The 2006 Games here in Aachen were the most extraordinary championships we riders have ever experienced,” said Isabell Werth at Monday’s online press conference. Christian Kukuk recalled being just 16 years old in the stands: “I can still remember that electrifying atmosphere vividly,” the Paris 2024 Olympic champion reflected. Back then, his dream was that such a prestigious event would once again take place in Aachen. Next summer, that wish becomes reality as the world’s elite return to compete for titles in six disciplines. Both Werth and Kukuk confirmed their determination to secure a spot on the German team, vowing to give their best.
The sense of anticipation was shared by everyone involved. FEI President Ingmar de Vos expressed confidence in the event’s ability to showcase the many facets of equestrian sport to the world. Stefanie Peters, President of the Aachen-Laurensberger Rennverein, described hosting the championships as “a great honor” and highlighted ongoing investments, such as upgrades to the Cross-Country Course, supported by Germany’s Federal Ministry of the Interior. The goal, Peters stressed, is to keep Aachen recognized as the global flagship of equestrian sport.
An exceptional stage for the competitions
The Championships will offer 13 days of top-class sport: dressage, eventing, and vaulting will take place in the first week, followed by show jumping, four-in-hand driving, and para dressage in the second. ALRV’s Head of Sport, Birgit Rosenberg, emphasized the uniqueness of the dressage competitions being held in the Main Stadium, normally reserved for show jumping. Para dressage and vaulting will be hosted in the newly roofed Stadium 3, ensuring a memorable setting and integrating para riders into the heart of the event. Spectators with a day or village ticket will also have access to the para dressage competitions.
Dr. Dennis Peiler, Managing Director Sport at the German Equestrian Federation, stated that the aim is to excel in all six disciplines, especially since the event serves as the first qualifier for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles.
A vibrant supporting program
Aachen is set to pair world-class sport with unforgettable entertainment. The Opening Ceremony will feature a colorful parade with music, hundreds of horses, riders, performers, and artists, orchestrated by renowned theater director Uwe Brandt. On August 11th, the German State Studs will impress the audience with a quadrille of 64 stallions, and various royal families will appear in stunning carriages.
Beyond the arenas, the Championships’ spirit will fill the city. Mayor Sibylle Keupen welcomed visitors to a lively program of concerts, culinary experiences, public screenings, and children’s workshops, transforming Aachen into a hub for sports fans and culture lovers. Athletes will also visit the city’s Katschhof square, further connecting the sport with the community.
Strong partnerships and a modern digital presence
Preparations are supported by major partners including Mercedes-Benz, Turkish Airlines, Longines, and Sparkassen Finanzgruppe. Event General Manager Michael Mronz emphasized their shared ambition to set global standards for athletes, horses, and fans. A new website offers a modern interface, soon to feature an AI chatbot from amberSearch for improved digital interaction. Mronz and Peters assured that their teams are committed to delivering an outstanding experience for all participants and visitors.
