Thousands of fans were treated to a spectacular Canada Day at Spruce Meadows. An exciting Canada Cup Derby on the International Ring featured 14 obstacles (17 jumping efforts) and 650m of track. Forty-Seven horse/rider combinations stepped through the Clock Tower to take on the derby-style track designed by FEI Course Designer Santiago Varela (ESP). This was the first time through the Clock Tower for many of the athletes - both horse and rider.
Nine combinations cleared the first round course and advanced to the jump off. It was an incredibly fast jump off. Ireland’s Jordan Coyle was holding down top spot with a clear jump-off time of 34.40s but younger brother Daniel was last to go in the order.
Daniel Coyle (IRL) aboard his new mount, Calippo 57 (Casallco x For edition i), took all the risks and came away rewarded. The pair crossed the finish line in a time 34.16s to win the Canada Cup Derby.
On stage, Jordan Coyle finished second with King Kannan GP (Kannan GFE x Warrant). Third place was for Kyle King and Odysseus (Osilvis x Riverman).
