Emily Dehoff claimed a career-defining victory this week, securing the top spot in the Wellington International $32,000 Hermès 1.50m Classic. The win marks a significant milestone for the 22-year-old rider, who has officially shifted her focus from the Under-25 division to the senior ranks this season.
iding the 14-year-old Belgian-bred mare Manou de Muze (Arko III x Quidam De Revel, breeder: Joris De Brabander), Dehoff was the final challenger in a 13-horse jump-off. In a testing round on Wellington’s iconic grass derby field, she was one of only two riders to produce a double-clear performance. Crossing the timers in a blistering 49.17 seconds, she comfortably took the win.
Germany’s Tony Stormanns claimed second place aboard the 10-year-old Westphalian gelding RMF Balouwinsky (Balous bellini x Cornet Obolensky). Making his debut with the horse, Stormanns posted a steady clear in 54.84 seconds. Having watched Stormanns’ round from the warm-up, Dehoff knew she had the speed to overtake him without over-pressing her mare. Completing the stage, Zayna Rizvi followed in third aboard Perry De Winter's bred, Oryzon van het Schaeck.
The partnership between Dehoff and Manou de Muze is well-established; the pair were instrumental in helping the U.S. team secure gold at the 2024 North American Youth Championships.
"She’s been my move-up horse," Dehoff commented after her win. "She’s helped me jump all the big FEI classes. This was definitely a goal of mine. Coming into WEF this year, the plan is to jump more 2* and 3* classes. She was great two weeks ago, and we are aiming for a couple of 4* events toward the end of the circuit. She’s just been a great ride for me and she never lets me down."
