Course designer Ken Krome opened Old Salem Farm’s FEI 2* division with a 13-effort, 1.40m course for the $5,000 Speed Stake. Of the 45 entries representing eight nations who contested the track, 13 went clear, with Goding and her 15-year-old Zangersheide gelding racing well ahead of the competition in 61.42 seconds.

“That was super fun; what a class!” Goding said. “I’ve had Victor for just over four years, and I started out by getting him in the 1.30m. He’s taken me all the way up to this 2*. I can’t say enough good things about him. He’s a fabulous horse who tries so hard every day, and I just love him to death. He’s super powerful and willing to do whatever I’m asking, but he sometimes wants to take over with that sense of, ‘Come on, I know what I’m doing!’ Every time out, I remind him that we’re in it together and just try to give him my all.

“This is our first time at Old Salem, actually,” she added. “We were here last week, and he jumped fabulously. It’s such a spectacular facility. I’m so happy to be here, and I would definitely love to come back.”

Delaney Flynn (USA) flew into second place with a 65.46-second time aboard Conthaginha Star, Windsor Show Stables’ 9-year-old Westphalian mare. Madison Papariello (USA) finished third in 65.55 seconds aboard Hinosa C, a 14-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare owned by Glenlin Farm.
