After winning the LGCT Grand Prix, Harrie Smolders brought joy to the home crowd on Sunday. "Monaco gets better year after year," Smolders said. "I’m super grateful to have this fantastic horse in my stable!"
Smolders is full of praise for the bay gelding. "Monaco is a dream horse. I’m grateful he’s on my team, grateful to the owners! He’s truly one of those exceptional horses that only rarely cross your path."
Winning in Valkenswaard is unique, according to Smolders. "To win this Grand Prix in front of a home crowd is exceptional. The audience went wild! You could clearly hear that everyone thought I had won, even though I wasn’t yet 100% sure myself. The support you get is enormous... I’m convinced that the cheering also motivated Monaco!"
Smolders left Nicola Philippaerts and Gilles Thomas behind in this Grand Prix.
"We gave it our best today," said Philippaerts. "But Harrie and Monaco are world class. In my opinion, one of the best combinations in the world. I’m still happy with second place," the Belgian concluded.
